Why do we have to pay higher gas prices, when the oil companies made their biggest profits ever?

Everytime something happens with the oil “ie” pipe lines break, war, hurricanes etc… We are the ones who have to pay. I think the oil companies and their billions of dollars in profits should shell some of it out. What are your thoughts?
