Is it any worse to make a profit off of sick people than it is to make a profit off of hungry people?

People don’t work for free or build hospitals & restaurants for free…

I keep reading on YA how people say its wrong for health care providers to make a profit.

  1. Who cares?
You’re making a profit and causing them no harm.
That’s what the free market is.

  2. Food is, technically speaking, more important than medicine…

  3. It’s like the Irish Potato Famine of health care.

  4. Well, it’s semantics, but it’s not wrong for them to make a profit, but it is to make it OFF of the sick/hungry people. Of course they need to make a profit and live. That’s Capitalism. But it doesn’t have to be off of them. It can be off of Insurance companies, etc.

  5. That’s what happens when you feel you are entitled to everything. Selling your vote for free stuff works.

  6. Please provide linked evidence where ANYONE has claimed that it is ‘wrong’ for health care providers to make a profit.

It isn’t ‘wrong’ for businesses to make a profit, but obviously, when it comes to the health and well being of the entire nation, health should be more important than the almighty dollar. When health care providers are delaying and/or denying life saving care/treatment, the dollar has become more important than the goal of health care. When you cannot in ANY WAY choose your provider–when you must go with your employer’s carrier or the only private insurer in your state (at a huge cost), then it is no longer about your health and well being, but about making money. Choice in health care would nearly eliminate this issue.

  7. Liberals **** the word PROFIT in any context.

  8. Earn a living no problem.

Buy a 250 foot yacht, I have a problem with that

Pay a neuro surgeon $7,600,000 a year or pay 20 surgeons $350,000 each?

That works for me and them

  9. Health care providers? do you mean Doctors, Nurses, Administration, other needed staffing departments? well yes we definitely need and respect them or should. Do you mean insurance companies and profiteers at the state and federal level that abuse their rights in lobbying politicians? Well yes they make a profit off of both and should not get away with it. They are the ones that pushes to not have generic drugs or not perform certain services. Lets be clear Engineers and Architects and construction companies build hospitals not lobbyists and even then are stymied by business leaders and other nuts who get on committees by state mayors and governors to decide if a much needed hospital can get built.
