How does the government profit off of the sales of ritalin, opioids, and methadone?

The government won’t ban tobacco because they profit billions of dollars a year. They won’t legalize marijuana because they can profit off of the pharmaceutical product, Marinol. I’m not able to locate any resources explaining how the government profits off of pharmaceuticals.

    Corporations sell the drugs and make profits. Those profits are taxed. That’s how the government makes money.

    If marijuana were legalized and sold with taxes, the government would make a lot more money. Marinol is not very popular. It does not have the range of benefits of the whole herb.
