I need to know how to calculate the profit or loss if i sold all my shares of stock. this is again, for a project, and its THI (Tim Horton) stock. If i bought $1000 dollars worth of stock on May 3rd, 2006 when the price was $28.78 and sold all of it on December 10th of 2008 where the price was $25.77
how do i calculate profit/ loss in selling stock?

34.746352 shares x 28.78 = $1,000.00
28.78 – 25.77 = 3.01 per share loss
3.01 x 34.746352 = 104.58651 (rounded up = loss of $104.59)
or
$1,000.00 (purchase cost) – 895.41 (sell value) = -104.59
I agree with AL in Nc You must also include your buying and selling costs
