  1. Because those Republican Senators are owned by the Oil Companies.

  2. because thats called communism you dolt. what right does the government have to take away profits from any company?

  3. because their all friends

  4. Oil companies must make a profit..or else why would they be in business? but the speculators are holding the prices too high..its not always what it appears to be…capitalism has to follow the law of supply and demand..China will buy the oil at the inflated prices and so will Europe too

  5. They are all part of one big shitty rich family.

  6. Support for big business is a central tenant of the Republican Party. Some see that as a good thing, others do not, but it’s true either way.

  7. Let me tell you what happen because it happen before in the Carter years remember them ,,,we raise taxes on them they cut back on pumping oil ,gas shorted and then they raise the cost of gas ,,BINGO THAT WHY..

  8. Bush and Cheney will soon be back in civilian life, and can resume their positions on the oil company boards

  9. The Congress has no business regulating or limiting a company’s profits. We need oil, not a bunch of idiot Democrat politicians punishing the very companies that provide this very critical resource that we all need.
What Congress should be doing is allowing the oil companies to drill domestically, drill offshore and in ANWR. They should allow more refineries and nuclear power plants to be built.

  10. because it would not resolve high gas prices which was the point of the whole bloviation….it did not correct the problem and would have only made it worse…

Carter meddled with oil companies in the seventies with catastophic results…

  11. Because the press makes stories much more simple then they actually are. The bill is likely more complex then a headline the press enjoys cherry picking. The complexities of the bill are likely why it was rejected.

It’s time the American people wake up and start ignoring mainstream media until they cover news completely and unbiased.

Speaking of bills how about the $290 billion Dems recently passed for farm subsidies. In this day and age of demand for crops of all kinds used both for food and fuel if farmers can not make a living farming they should not be farming.

  12. Republicans love oil, Especially when they’re lubing each other up with it.

Gez: What is it called when the government bails out the airlines because they can’t compete in the market?

  13. oil companies give nice contributions to high ranking officials, in all reallity if we stopped buying from foriegn counties it would put the american economy back on track , most of our oil is sold or owned to or by a foriegn country and we import our oil from the suadies they pretty much do what they want , up until the war in kuwait oil was cheap………..

  14. Because they know that if you raise taxes on them they will offset it by cutting jobs and raising the price for the consumer. Not to mention that those profits belong to most of the american people. Most of them are public companies and the stock is held by millions of americans in their mutual funds and 401k’s. who do you think benefits from the profits anyway?
