How do you get profit off of your independent film?

So I am making this epic documentary. It will turn out to be big enough to be viewed in many film festivals. Now say a major motion picture distributor (i.e. Fox or WB) wishes to distribute it to theaters and home video. Would I get a large portion of that profit, or should I expect little money?

    Depends on how good of a Lawyer/Agent you hire to do your negotiating for you! Oh you don’t have a Lawyer/Agent yet, get one before you ever sign ANYTHING or expect the answer to be “Little Money”!
