Why has the number of billionaires and multimillionaires skyrocketed while the middle class is shrinking and the ranks of the poor swell????

because tax relief unburdens business..increasing production and profit…which ultimately beneifts the consumer……
nice try
because the incomes of the middle and poor are not enough to keep up with rising costs of food and gas.
as well as the bad mortgages where folks cant keep up with monthly payments.
Capitalism run amok.
Look towards illegal immigration, and ALL the Visa’s this Country puts through!!!!!!!!!! BLAME THE POLITICIANS, it is coming from both parties my friend, not just our President.
“Trickle down economics” is bullspit they use to give huge tax cuts to the rich, and their corporate buddies. The only place that money trickles is into the coffers of big corporations, or into the bank account of some fat cat.
You don’t have to be a genius to figure this out. You just have to look at the profits Haliburton and Exxon are raking in. The neo-cons just are either too stubborn or stupid to admit it, or rich enough to be laughing all the way to the bank.
Well it certainly proves that his economics have worked as far as businesses are concerned. those big businesses provide the jobs and commodities that the rest of us need to survive. Thank you for making the point so clear, even though it clearly was not your original intent.
That’s not true./
Why, why, why.
Why don’t you try to get your facts straight?
Business profits are down- not up in the last 2 years.
The fact that more people are making big bucks is great. Why do you object to more of us getting rich?
It means that the opportunity is there.
Some of us grab for it
Others lay down and whine.
I’ve never heard of the company “Big Business.” Is that a corporation? What was their profit margin last fiscal year? Oh, I see…you’re making a ridiculous generalization based on your perception of reality.
Not so much to do with Bush (look at what was going on during Clinton), but more to do with a general change in the way business works and globalization. CEO compensation, tech bubbles, and out sourcing have altered the playing field significantly. The area where government has failed is mainly by allowing the various industries create legislation that benifits them over the consumer, such as the rules that allowed Enron to do what it did and the credit card companies rewriting the rules for personal bankruptcy to their liking.
That’s what it’s all about.
It’s not a sideline, or a side effect.
It is 100% intentional.
That purported trickle down effect has had them laughing to the bank, since time immoral.
We must attribute it to the hand of God, as the democrats say the millionaires are the winners of life’s lottery.
It’s not just Bush. It started back with Reagan.
Sounds like you would prefer big business to lose money. Then you could complain about the bad economy. Maybe you want business to have a medium amount of profit. Here’s the real story - every industry has a cycle of ups and downs. Some companies have better management than others. With airlines, its Southwest. These companies earn profits which allows them to expand and create new opportunities and more jobs. That’s good. In turn, they pay more in taxes to the government so the government can take care of us.
The goofball answerer’s above who are just repeating the lie that when the rich get richer and when corporations do well that the benefits of that are for all Americans in the name of jobs.
I am all for creating jobs, but how about a few of those here in the US! How about some jobs that will allow a family to afford a home and food on ONE INCOME, while saving a little money for retirement and college for their kids. We had this in America until the late 80s *** happened? Oh yeah, Reaganomics. Reaganomics ruined our country!
But you conservatives keep buying the spin of trickle down economics, look at all those jobs that have been created by tax breaks to corporations! Go ahead please, move to India and take one of those jobs. Trickle down economics may work, but in a worldwide economy those benefits are not happening here in the US.
