~~~Yes, their records speak for themselves!~~
Big business or small and in any industry, profits are the point. Without profit there is no point to keeping a business alive. The worth of a company to society is measured by its profits. The more profit it makes, the more valuable society values it and hence its stock price goes up. If it makes no profit or loses money it means that society places little value on it in that form and it will go out of business.
Now consider that the pay of most top executives is tied to the company’s stock price, isn’t it obvious they will put profits first.
Yes, when a chemical plant blew up in Chareston, WV last night and a person was killed and another was burned so badly they had to be airlifted to Pittsburgh, the company rep said they were “devastated” by it. But really, this will barely cause a ripple at the Bayer board room in Germany. People are going to more concerned because this plant is the only source in the world for certain insecticides and without them, farmers may have smaller crops and profits will be reduced.
No one will remember Barry Withrow, the guy who was killed but they will be concerned about lower profits from lower crop yield until the plant gets going again.
